Affordable Skincare Essentials For A DIY At-Home Spa Day—Treat Yourself

at home spa day with friends

What basic bitch doesn’t love a good spa day?

The idea of being pampered, massaged, and waited on hand and foot fills my boujee heart with so much joy.

However, a day at the spa can be time-consuming and expensive as fuck. If you don’t want to splurge, here are some tips and essentials for putting together a relaxing at-home spa day yourself.

If you’re thinking an at-home spa day sounds a little dull—think again! You can do a relaxing and luxurious at-home spa day without making your wallet cry.

And the best part of an at-home spa day? You can pop some bottles and drink a little bubbly which is something you can’t do at most spas. #winning

I’ll take champagne over cucumber water any day, but damn, I do love a fancy fruit flavored water too.

Here are some essentials you need to make your at-home spa day the best:

  • Washcloths (White washcloths always feel the most luxurious in my opinion)
  • Cleanser
  • Face scrub
  • Toner
  • Face masks
  • Moisturizer

Now, it’s time to set the mood.

I highly suggest dimming the lights in your bathroom and bedroom, lighting a couple of candles, and putting on some relaxing music.

If you want to get really fancy and up the ambiance factor, use an essential oil diffuser!spa day at home

Turn off anything distracting like the TV, put your phone on silent, and really unwind for a few hours.

When you’ve got all of your spa essentials ready and the mood right, get everything laid out and set up to begin.

Spread out some towels on your bed so that you can lay down and chill while your face masks are on but can be sure you won’t get any mess on your sheets.

Set up all of the skincare products in order on your bathroom sink so that everything is ready and waiting for you.

The less you have to think about, the easier and more relaxing your at-home spa experience will be.

 Step 1

I suggest showering and using a good body scrub to remove any dead skin cells. I love using Soap & Glory’s The Scrub of Your Life followed by Nivea’s In-Shower Body Lotion to seal in all of your skin’s moisture.

Whew, now that all the heavy lifting is over, we can get to the fun part – relaxing and getting beautified!

Step 2

Remember, to make this experience more spa-like use warm wet washcloths to remove your cleansers, scrubs, and masks. It may seem silly, but it ups the spa-like factor in a major way, trust me.

Now, put on a cozy robe and get ready to be pampered.

I love using the old yet faithful Ponds’ Cold Cream Cleaner, followed by a gentle cleaner like Garnier’s Gentle Sulfate-Free Cleaner.

Step 3

Next, coat your skin with a quality toner.

My favorite drugstore toner is Neutrogena’s Alcohol-Free Toner.

Feel free to skip this step if you don’t have a toner handy.

 Step 4

Next, it’s all about scrubbing away those dead skin cells.

I prefer to create my scrub using coffee grounds and coconut oil but this Olay Refreshing Citrus Scrub Cleanser is a good quality, affordable store-bought option.

Step 5

Finally, it’s time to mask up.

I highly suggest using at least 2-3 masks during your at-home spa day. It drags out the process and makes it much more enjoyable.

You want to make sure you apply your masks in the right order.

Exfoliating masks like L’Oreal’s Exfoliate and Refine Pure Clay Mask should be used first, followed by a purifying mask like Masque Bar’s Luminizing Charcoal Peel Off Mask, with hydrating or calming masks like Garnier’s Moisture Bomb Sheet Masks being applied last.

Step 6

Now lay down on your bed, set a timer, and zone out while listening to relaxing music for 10-15 minutes then rinse and repeat until all your face masks have been applied.

If you want to up the ante throw on a hair mask, I am obsessed with L’Oreal’s Total Repair Extreme mask.

Step 7

Finally, once all your face masks are completed, you’ll want to seal in the hydration with a good moisturizer.

I have super dry skin, so I double up on the moisturizer, which I suggest everyone does.

I use a gel-lotion like Garnier’s Moisture Rescue or Neutrogena’s Hydra Boost first followed by a heavier moisturizer like Ponds’ Dry Skin Cream.

Down a glass or two of champagne while you’re at it.

If I were you, I’d cancel any plans and snuggle on the couch watching Real Housewives for the rest of the day.

Everyone deserves to treat themselves and with these affordable at-home spa essentials, you can!

Remember, it’s more than a look, it’s a lifestyle! Stay Beautiful!
